Apply for a Home

Potential applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for a home:

NEED:
Family must demonstrate a need for adequate and affordable housing. (Lack of adequate housing may include problems with the present structure; water, electrical or sewage service systems; heating system, or failure to meet city property maintenance standards.  Also taken into consideration are the number, the ages and the gender of children compared to the number of bedrooms in your present home.)

ABILITY TO PAY:
Family's gross income must fall within the income guidelines (below).

YEARLY INCOME GUIDELINES:
Minimum income-$21,000 annually (regardless of family size)
Maximum income-$33,720 (for a family of four)
You and your family will be considered if your annual total income is between 30-50% of the median income for Manhattan Area.

WILLINGNESS TO PARTNER:
Must be willing to agree to form a partnership with the Manhattan Area Habitat for Humanity, which includes performing a number of "sweat equity" hours during the building of the home, attending Habitat sponsored events, or otherwise assisting the organization.

ATTEND A HABITAT HOMEOWENERSHIP ORIENTATION SESSION:
An overview of the application and Habitat for Humanity homeownership process is provided at these sessions. Applications can ONLY be obtained following the attendance of this session.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:
Applicant must have lived or worked in Riley County or Pottawatomie County for at least one year and be a legal resident of the United States.
